ABAS at CeBIT 2005

Karlsruhe, January 21, 2005 - In hall 5, stand A 18, ABAS, together with its sales partners, will present news concerning abas Business Software (ERP, PPC, MRP, eBusiness). ABAS is celebrating the 25th company anniversary, therefore the company is placing its attention particularly on the evolutionary system approach of the software which ensures a continuing development. Further central topics: internationality, ERP for the automotive industry, CRM functionality, Web Applications, function expansions and 64Bit computing.

  25 years of ABAS

ABAS will be 25 – a proud age for a software company! For the abas users a sign for long-time experience and quality as well as the guaranteed future and investment security. The company that was founded in Karlsruhe in 1980, developed from a company that was characterized by students and was programming individual solutions into an internationally operating standard software manufacturer for medium-sized businesses. Forerunner of today’s abas Business Software was ”abas EKS”, a production planning and materials management system, which was implemented for the first time in 1985 and continuously developed. In the meantime, over 1,600 companies work with the flexible ERP and eBusiness Software, and more than 40 sales partners worldwide ensure the sales and distribution of the abas products. Already since 1995 ABAS has been successfully relying on Linux and about 80% of abas users are using the open source operating system.

  Evolutionary software

The evolutionary system approach of abas Business Software supports businesses significantly when adjusting to the changing market demands. In the long term this expandability and adaptability makes a considerable contribution to the competitiveness of the user. The software standard can be fast and easily adjusted to different industries and companies and always remains standard upgradable, while modifications will be retained after an upgrade. Time and cost-intensive reworking is just as unnecessary as a complete migration. ABAS pursues a continuing enhancement strategy: About 30% of the entire software code are being reworked every year – when regularly carrying out upgrades, the user will be provided with an entirely revised software with current technologies every three to five years. This evolutionary system approach is unique and offers the users a high profit over a long period of time.

  Internationality in focus

Since medium-sized businesses are more and more integrated into worldwide operating company networks, they need an internationally tailored software as well as a sophisticated, efficient partner network. abas Business Software is multilingual, in the user menu as well as in the display language. You can work with the same database in different operating languages. This simplifies working with your subsidiaries in other countries. abas Business Software is available in the following languages: German, American and British English, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Turkish, Hungarian, Polish, Bulgarian, Romanian, Russian, Slovakian, Czech, Slovenian, Indonesian, Thai, Arabic and Chinese (simplified and traditional). Additional languages on request. Since abas Business Software uses the Unicode character set, Chinese or Cyrillic characters can also be displayed. Over 40 partners provide worldwide on-site service.

  abas ERP for automotive businesses

The abas Business Software contains an integrated EDI function which is an important criterion when choosing a business software for automotive component suppliers. With Version 2004, delivery schedule orders are created via the fast entry screen in the dialog. The depiction of the delivery schedules (delivery classification) also takes place in the dialog – the old delivery schedules are constantly being compared to the new ones. Shipping planning from JIT delivery schedules is equally supported as the clear listing of all blanket orders in the dialog – including packing slip, price and call-up history.

  Integrated CRM functionality

The infosystems that are integrated in the abas Business Software are a custom-made navigation platform for dealing with business processes efficiently, including the respective evaluations. Multifaceted shortcut options in dialog screens and evaluations enable fast and clear process-related working. The abas customer infosystem offers many CRM functions. It manages the processes and activities of all relevant projects, while being employee and customer oriented.

  Web Applications further expanded

Using the abas Web Application you can edit your abas ERP data , independent of the platform, as well as Web Applications, such as Web Shop, customer and supplier information systems on the Intranet or Internet via a browser. Moreover, Web services can be provided in order to make information from infosystems available. Data from Java or WebService compatible external applications can be provided on the Internet, e.g. data from CAD-, CAQ-, CRM- or filing systems.

  Enhancements in many function areas

The new version of abas Business Software contains extensive innovations in many function areas, the electronic advance VAT return has for example been integrated into abas ERP. In abas ERP the electronic data transfer to the ELSTER clearing location is realized using the new print engine. By this means it is possible, for example, to transfer advance VAT returns from the print dialog of the advance VAT return form, or to transfer applications for permanent time limit extension from an infosystem.
GDPDU compatible: abas ERP contains the possibility of exporting data in relational form. A database model for the GDPDU (Principles concerning data access and the verifiability of digital documents) can be found in the release version to make the export of tax-relevant data available in electronic form.
Capacity planning: In the capacity planning complete orders or single operations can be moved to different dates. In a dialog mode display the effects of the movement of dates can be displayed in a graphical or table display. The system allows a so-called “drill-down” processing of the displays.

64Bit computing with abas Business Software

Thanks to the support of the IBM iSeries (AS400) a new platform is available with the new IBM Power 5 processors using which changing to a modern, graphical ERP system is possible. Optionally, IBM OpenPower can be supported. Intel Itanium® and Xeon Nocona are two other 64Bit platforms that are being supported.
