Stratec:
integrated automatic analyzer systems
STRATEC Biomedical Systems AG plans, develops and
produces fully automatic analyzer systems for partners in the fields of clinical diagnostics and biotechnology. In
1998 the company became a stock corporation and was also listed on the stock
market in the same year. Since then, the revenue has multiplied by seven times.
With approx. 350 employees in the entire group, STRATEC generated a revenue of
102 million Euro in 2010. The
successful company strategy is supported by the ERP solution abas Business
Software, which has been used since 1991 in other company areas and is continually
being expanded. The connection of the Swiss subsidiary and the integration of
vendors using a web portal are the two most recent projects that were carried
out. Customized infosystems were also set up.
Web portal links vendors to ERP
Process optimization is the objective of STRATEC's eBusiness strategy. A web portal, based on abas eB, has also been implemented. The company Genthner, which is in close proximity, was selected as the pilot vendor. "This is one of our main vendors for modules," informs Peter Stalling, Stratec's Head of IT. "Due to the proximity, this was the perfect choice. If there had been any problems we could have dealt with them easily. But there were no problems."Vendors can now access a web front-end with their own login and input screen via the Internet. Vendors can access recent orders, view the status or enter data. At the same time, a packing slip is generated in the abas Business Software. If the employee in receiving calls the packing slip, the incoming goods will be posted in the ERP system, as well as the corresponding serial number data and module data.
Low error rate through ERP scanner

Peter Stalling, Head of IT at STRATEC:
"If the integration of our vendors will
continue to run smoothly, we will be
able to complete the eBusiness project
by the end of this year."
Another project was successfully implemented in the materials management area. "Recently we have started to use electronic scanners in the warehouse. The abas Business Software runs on the display of the device using a terminal service client. Using infosystems, we have adjusted the screens in such a way that entries in the warehouse can now be made directly with the scanner."
By doing so, the error rate for entries has been reduced. Warehouses or locations respectively were provided with barcodes which can now be scanned directly. Employees are thus able to enter the data correctly right away when withdrawing the goods. Not only the warehouse solution but also the entire ERP system and the new web portal are rated above average by the Head of IT: "Our experience with abas Business Software and abas eB are very good. In my opinion there is no comparable solution which would be suitable for our requirements in terms of functionality and flexibility."
