Linux initiative in Hong Kong

Karlsruhe, May 25th, 2005 – ABAS Business Solutions (PRC) Ltd., IBM China/Hong Kong Limited and Novell Hong Kong Limited have announced to launch a Linux initiative for promoting the rapid distribution of Linux applications. Local companies shall then be able to use abas ERP with IBM’s new eServer OpenPower 710 and Novell SUSE LINUX.

Linux initiative: ABAS, IBM and Novell“By extending abas ERP support together with Novell, IBM innovations in the software industry are promoted that aim at developing new solutions for the rapidly growing SMB market”, says Michael Choy, Business Manager eServer OpenPower, Systems and Technology Group, IBM China/Hong Kong Limited. “While Linux´s momentum is growing on a daily basis, our objective is to overcome hurdles on the way to developing new Linux applications, by offering efficient, integrated hardware/software support.”

At the IBM OpenPower Technology Center in Hong Kong, IBM and Novell will now jointly offer technical service and support for ABAS in order to further develop the ERP solution using eServer OpenPower 710 and the Novell SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server. This makes it easier for ABAS to enter this market segment and allows the company to offer a new technology platform for abas ERP using Linux –at the same time its development costs are reduced.

Vincent Lau, ABAS Business Solutions (PRC)“The joint initiative of ABAS and IBM represents an important milestone in creating an IT world around SUSE LINUX,” says Peter Man, Sales Director, Novell Hong Kong. “ABAS has further achieved Novell´s YES certification for its Linux compatible abas ERP solution. The certification shows that the abas Business Software was tested by an independent party - and was successful in meeting Novell´s high quality product standards.”
